Issues like water supply, road widening and road extension were discussed at the gram sabha of Verna panchayat held on Sunday and resolutions pertaining to them were passed.
The panchayat has assured to soon pursue these issues. Verna gram sabha started at 10 a.m.
Verna sarpanch Lourenca Gama read the action taken report and later panchayat secretary Sachin Naik read the minutes of the previous gram sabha.
While action taken report was being read, a gram sabha member pointed out that the premises for old age home is being used for a commercial purpose and panchayat should look into the matter, and the panchayat agreed to that.
Locals demanded that a new advocate be appointed by the panchayat as the court-related panchayat matters are moving at a turtle speed.
Further, farmers from Dulape requested the panchayat to extend a road as they face difficulties in reaching their fields. A resolution was passed to that effect.
Issue of depletion of water level was raised by Francis Xavier Fernandes. He said that there is a necessity to build 3 bundharas in the village so that the water which they receive from river Sal can be stored and used for agricultural activities by the village farmers.
Another local, Judith Rebello, stated that the fresh water from wells and public taps/bore wells should not be used for commercial purpose and should be utilized for domestic purpose only as the villagers are facing water scarcity. She stated that panchayat should protect the interest of villagers and if there is any development which is not in favor of village, it should be opposed.
Later, it was resolved to demand denotification of land acquired by the government in 1995 for construction of D2 distributory of SIP main canal from Arlem to Utorda.
Later, Nuvem MLA Francisco Xavier Pacheco, in his address, said that people should extend their support to development works in the village.
