Farmers from Keri, Rawan, Poriem and surrounding areas in Bicholim taluka recently called on the deputy collector of Bicholim Biju Naik and submitted a memorandum to her demanding measures to protect their farms from attacks by wild animals.
It is learnt that Naik has assured the farmers of undertaking remedial measures to protect their farms from attacks by wild animals.
It may be recalled that the affected farmers had on Wednesday blocked the Sankhalim-Belgaum highway at Don Maad, Kerim in protest against the “lackadaisical” attitude of concerned government authorities and political representatives to initiate measures to protect their farms. Naik along with mamlatdar had visited the site and discussed the matter with the farmers.
During the meeting on Thursday, Naik observed that power fencing is the best way to keep wild animals at bay. She also told that she has begun talks with other concerned authorities in this matter. The meeting was held in the presence of agriculture and forest officials.
